Job Description:


Network Technician works with Senior Network Administrators to implement, maintain and support all network infrastructure services. This position provides courteous, responsive service to the College Community.


RESPONSIBILITIES:



+ Test and troubleshoot network services, technologies and basic device configuration on network hardware such as client switches, wireless access points.


+ Troubleshoot all components of an Ethernet network including data jacks, patch panels, cabling and termination based on industry standards.


+ Update inventory of network hardware and software as necessary


+ Work with Senior Network Administrators for long-term planning (including design, network security and capacity planning) and higher-level network support when needed


+ Run cable lines and perform terminations based on industry standards


+ Utilize department's ticketing system to enter, close and monitor relevant tickets


+ Serve as Tier 2 support for Helpdesk tickets


+ Engage in relevant professional development activities


+ Other duties as assigned





Requirements:



+ Two-year degree in a technology related discipline


+ Minimum one year's work experience in the configuration, installation and maintenance of Ethernet routers, switches, firewalls, 802.11x wireless LANs, security appliances, IDS/IPS appliances, switches and other network hardware is preferred.


+ Working knowledge of basic networking concepts such as TCP/IP, VLANs and 802.11x wireless LANs


+ Familiarity with cyber security precautions and best practices


+ Manual dexterity using basic electronics hand tools and testing equipment


+ Effective communication skills and high-quality service orientation required


+ Ability to work effectively with both technical staff and non-technical end users


+ Ability to learn new concepts and the self-motivation to do so


+ Working knowledge of networking applications and technologies


+ Occasional weekend and evening hours throughout the year required


+ Demonstrated customer service orientation


+ Ability to lift network switches, monitors, small UPS's and other equipment


+ Ability to work from ladders


+ Ability to maneuver in small confined spaces

Full time, full-year hourly position.
